What is Spintax?

Spintax, an abbreviation for "Spin Syntax," allows you to easily generate sentence or word variations. This can help you create a more personalized and diverse collection of cold emails for your leads.

See the example of such a message below:

How does it work in Woodpecker?

You can use Spintax both in the subject line and in the email copy.

In our app, the format is pretty much the same as for snippet fallbacks – the difference is that you can write more fallback options to the formula, and you have to start it with “SPINTAX.”

You can either type in the formula by yourself or click on the Spintax icon right next to the Snippets icon in the email editor bar. Here, you’ll also see some samples for opening or closing greetings or praises to fit into various places of your message.

You can also include a snippet into the Spintax formula, like this:

If the snippet is inside the Spintax formula, it will only be used for the value where it’s at. If you put it outside the formula, it will be included in every message.

Example:

{{SPINTAX | "Hi" | "Hello" | "Good morning"}} {{FIRST_NAME}},
{{SPINTAX | "First value" | "{{COUNTRY}}"}}.

In case the Spintax is empty for a prospect, they will be put in the “To-check” tab. If a bracket is missing, Woodpecker will notify you with the notification below the email editor window.

FAQ

Q.: Can I change the Spintax value after activating my campaign?

Yes, you can. Simply click on the “Edit” icon on the campaign and change the value manually in the email. Check a campaign preview to ensure it’s all set up correctly.

Q.: Can I use snippets and snippets fallbacks in the Spintax formula?

You can use regular snippets freely, but snippet fallbacks won’t work in the Spintax formula. Be aware of the Spintax formula, as it is similar to that of snippet fallbacks. The difference is the inclusion of the word {{SPINTAX}} at the beginning of the formula.

Q.: Can I see how the email with Spintax included will look to my prospect?

Yes, you can see that in the Preview of your campaign. However, you’ll only see one spintax variant there, so if you wish to see others, click on the refresh link.

Q.: Is there a character limit on the spintax value?

There’s no character limit – you can set the value as long as you want.
