How does Adaptive Sending work?

Adaptive Sending is the system that protects your deliverability. It reduces the sending before reaching the provider's limit.

Email providers set daily, sometimes even hourly, limits for sent and received emails. (Check the sending limits of different email providers.) Exceeding these limits may result in a blocked email account. This could harm your campaign. By using Adaptive Sending, you can reduce the chance of account blocks by 59%.

How it works

Adaptive Sending is our system that works in the background while your emails are being sent. You do not need to turn it on as it constantly monitors your campaigns.

We implemented it to help you protect your deliverability. It avoids hitting your provider's send quota, which could block you for 24 hours.

When the system detects your sending volume is near your provider's limit, we reduce your email sending volume by 50% for 24 hours or by 10% for 10 days. After this time, an attempt will be made to return to the original sending parameters.

If you decide to disable it, you can do so in your email account settings. Head to the "Sending" tab there, and under the Sending limits, you'll see the option to switch it off.

Be aware that if you send too many emails, your provider may block your account. Our system only reduces the number of emails sent.

Microsoft restrictions

In case your provider is Microsoft and you receive a notification about restricting your mailbox due to sending too many messages, you will have to head to the Microsoft Defender portal to unblock it.

What does it protect me from?

The system helps maintain good deliverability. It does this by keeping your sending below your provider's limit.

This way, your provider won't block you for the entire day, and you'll keep a good sender reputation.

It does not protect you from receiving bounces. You still need to prepare your domain and email with the warm-up process for sending.

After that, take time to write a good, personal email. It will help avoid your prospects' spam folders.

Adaptive Sending isn't designed to hold back your email-sending potential. It monitors how many emails you’ve sent on a given day and helps you stay within your provider's limit. This stops deliverability drops from sending too many emails that don't reach prospects' inboxes. Think of it as your sidekick. It keeps your sender's reputation strong and ensures your emails reach their destination.

What benefits does Adaptive Sending bring to your inbox?

Since early 2022, we've identified inboxes blocked for surpassing their provider's limits. From this data, we compared 1,300 inboxes using Adaptive Sending to over 1,600 without it. The difference in received inbox blocks was 7,674—that’s 2.4 times fewer blocks for inboxes with AS protection.

The chart below compares data from our system. Over 15 days, it shows how sending from one account looks with Adaptive Sending off and on. A gap in the graph means the sending quota was exceeded the day before. Your email provider stopped the ability to send from the mailbox altogether for 24 hours. The number of emails sent out during this period with AS disabled is 14,440.

The green color on the chart shows the data of sending with Adaptive Sending turned on. On a day previously blocked from sending (and marked as "quota exceeded error"), everything is kept on schedule thanks to AS's quick response. This mechanism allows sending to continue, but in smaller amounts, avoiding interruptions in the process. The total number of messages sent during this period is 15,910. So, even with Adaptive Sending, more messages will be sent for a longer time.

The impact on campaign flow

Inboxes using Adaptive Sending keep a steady campaign flow. They adapt instantly to new limits, sidestepping interruptions altogether. In contrast, inboxes without AS and ignoring provider limits may send more emails daily. However, frequent exceedances pause their campaigns for 24 hours, wasting potential sending days.

The best way is to balance short-term gain and long-term loss. Following Adaptive Sending's daily email count keeps your inbox safe. It ensures a steady email flow without risking a halt in sending tomorrow.
